Stages Pastels Girault

Each day will start with a demo in the morning followed by painting time and again in the afternoon we will begin with a demo followed by more painting time.
I will spend the painting time offering one to one advice to all students as required. I will teach the class in English but will try to ensure that my demonstrations are visually clear in their presentation and that I at least have some useful French words relating to the practice of pastel painting.
We will look at seascape, landscapes and flower as our motifs through out the three days but if students are unable to make all three, each single day will work as a standalone workshop in its own right.

The aim of the workshop will be to encourage students to explore a looser, more expressive approach to pastel painting.
There will be an emphasis on strong mark making and bold use of colour. However we will not be neglecting the other fundamentals of composition, tone and drawing and materials.
Although some students may find this approach a little out of their comfort zone, they can be assured that the emphasis will be on enjoying the chance to try something maybe a little different and of course, further demonstrating the versatility of the soft pastel medium.
